Jaipur
India's Pink City
The Palace of the Winds is Jaipur's signature building.
It's a gigantic false front built in 1799 so the ladies of
the court could look out over the city.  There is no
palace behind the facade.  This pink sandstone remains
the dominant color in Jaipur.
This gate to the Old City is perfect in pink.
I found snake charmers in Jaipur, plus their cobra.
The Amber Palace, also a fort, is a few miles outside of
Jaipur.  Construction started on it in 1592.  Tourists
often arrive here after a short elephant ride, my first.
It's not easy to use a camcorder from atop an elephant.
Back in Jaipur these four young men wanted
their picture taken.  I always accept volunteers.
