Lava Monsters
Dimmuborgir, Iceland
This lava field is estimated to be about 2,000 years
old.  It features large, scary lava formations.
Each of these huge lava displays could easily be
taken as monsters or the work of monsters.
This lava monster seems to have a head.
It was extremely difficult to show the size of lava
formations here, lacking any frame of reference.
So much of Iceland is covered by lava flows, both
ancient and recent, that it seems volcanoes have
control.  The worst case scenario is a volcano
erupting under a glacier, creating huge floods,
melting water doing more damage than slower
moving lava.
