The Swamp Buggy & Airboat
The large area of Everglades National Park includes various
activities outside its borders that would not be allowed
within the park itself. I decided to enjoy the experience of
taking rides and photographing everything that was brand
new to me. I started with a swamp buggy ride. The swamp
buggy relies upon its huge tires to handle land and water.
The swamp buggy is both functional and very bumpy, as
shown in my video. Neither fast nor comfortable.
On the dry land portion of the ride, it turned out that the
swamp buggy people had been feeding marshmallows to
this raccoon. Normally a night creature, the raccoon
emerged in daylight to beg for marshmallows.
All very unnatural, but the raccoon got its marshmallows
and I ended up with great raccoon video plus stills. This
became even crazier when a large feral pig emerged to also
demand marshmallows. A truly strange trip.
Next day came a peaceful canoe ride into the everglades that
is shown in the video. Above you see my favorite, the airboat.
Before this ride was over, I had the experience of real speed,
interviewed the airboat captain, and even was filmed driving
the airboat myself. Only video can capture such highlights.
